In our humble opinion - We must be frank

"We must be frank" is the phrase that I like most of the speeches of our italian Premier Draghi.

He is the first in the history of the Italian republic to use this reassuring tone but at the same time a bit severe with his fellow citizens. Agree or against about what he says ... "we must be frank" ... he says it really well!

With this not exactly aeronautical incipit we would like to start this column because we thought that we too "must be frank" we have been working in the aviation world for 20 years and we still do not fully understand how it works. This is why the column is called "in our modest opinion", because probably no one in aviation has the complete knowledge, however encyclopedic it may be, and the opinions that can be given must not go beyond a "humble opinion".

Aviation, let's face it, is a world as fascinating as it is complex. The information barriers to entry are very high, whether you want to become pilots, technicians, engineers, as well as for the entire administrative sector. The regulations are a tangle of national, European and international rules and every sector: flight schools, airlines, maintenance companies, manufacturers, must deal with compliance, safety, authority audits, fiscal complexity ... thousands of pages of legislation, manuals, documents! There is now more paper in hangars than airplanes. Nothing is left to chance, everything is extremely procedural, even if sometimes with contradictions, evaluations more from a lawyer than from a technician, different visions of a world in which safety should be put first but sometimes bureaucracy prevails.

Don't be frightened by all this. However, aviation remains fascinating and with our website www.checkbeforeflight.com we will try to continue to offer a tool for disseminating aeronautical culture with articles, interviews, tutorials and the wiki section. We are ready to answer questions and continue to give "modest opinions"!
